Housing Navigation Services
The Coastal Bend Aging and Disability Resource Center promotes safe, affordable and integrated housing in the Coastal Bend Areas of: Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio. Through a Housing Navigator grant, the CBADRC provides more housing options for people to choose where they want to live. There is a great need for additional accessible, affordable and integrated housing in the 11 counties served.
An adequate supply of affordable, accessible and integrated housing to meet the needs of seniors and persons with disabilities is the goal of the Housing Navigator program. .
The Housing Navigators role is to advocate for necessary changes in housing policies, practices and procedures to help expand housing opportunities or support of the “Promoting Independence Initiative and Money Follow the Person” program. The CBADRC contributes to the development of affordable, accessible, and integrated housing for individuals with disabilities in a number of ways by:
- Reviewing and responding to housing policies at the local levels (Consolidated Plan, Housing Authority Plans, Community Development Block Grant and Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program).
- Establish relationships with independent rental owners, property managers to increase availability of properties, and
- Engage developers to bring additional affordable, accessible and integrated housing stock into the area.
Inventory List
The CBADRC has developed an inventory of integrated, accessible and affordable housing within the Coastal Bend Service Area. The Inventory List provides information on number of apartments, number of accessible units within the apartment complexes, availability of apartments, wait lists, rental subsidies per location, application process/and or application fees, contact person, phone numbers and addresses of apartments within the 11 Coastal Bend Counties of the CBADRC.
Increasing the availability of affordable, accessible and integrated housing for persons with disabilities and seniors will help achieve the Promoting Independence and Money Follows the Person Initiatives.
